HOW TO GET TO ABETONE: BY CAR: DIRECTION FROM FLORENCE – ROME Arriving from the highway take exit north of Modena in the Emilia and the exit of Pistoia in Tuscany and follow the signs to Abetone.
FROM LUCCA-VIAREGGIO-PISA Exit in Lucca, follow the signs to get to Abetone continue along the SS No 12 to Lima, then turn left to reach Abetone.
FROM NORTH ITALY Follow the best way for you to get to Modena. You can take the exit in Modena South or Modena Nord Campogalliano. In Campogalliano, follow the road to Modena and you’re on the freeway. Follow the SS Abetone 12, which is now the new freeway and you will arrive in Este Pavullo

The town of Abetone, located at 1388 meters above sea level, is the center of the homonymous district, desired mountain resort in the mountains in winter, with 50 km of ski runs and many ski lifts, and in the summer because of the numerous paths that allow long walks in the fauna, flora and stunning scenery of the Apennines. For those who love mountain sports, from beginners to experts, they can enjoy 50 km of ski runs and 22 ski-lifts plants realized by the consortium Multipass. You can also go practice cross country skiing on two loop trails for a total of 15 kilometers.The ski plants are divided into three zones: the first consists of the historic facilities: Selletta, Fivizzani, Riva; the second includes the ski runs in the Emilia region, Stucchi and Pulicchio,and the tracks Zeno created by Zeno Colò famous skier, born in Abetone in 1920; in the third ski runs are in the area called Valle di Luce. Abetone in the summer turns into a tourist center to satisfy those who want to enjoy moments of relax in the fresh air, away from the heat of the city, enjoying long walks or practicing cicling by mountain bike, or playing tennis and soccer. The hanging bridge (Ponte Sospeso) sis located in Mammiano Basso on the Lima river. The bridge is 220 meters long with a maximum height of 40 meters and is one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world. Today it has become a tourist attraction but its function in the past was to make a shortcut for those who had to cross the valley.
The Pyramids were made of stone for the opening of the pass of Abetone to mark the boundaries between the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and the Duchy of Modena. Designed by Leonardo Ximenes this Pyramids are both made of marble and stone and on the front of each structure is possible to see the weapon and the inscription of the two duchies.
The Botanical Garden , was opened in 1987 and covers an area of 14,000 sq km, located on a high of 1250/1300 meters in the valley of Sestaione. There are many interesting plants typical of this mountain chain, including the Vedovella , but also international species.
The Via Francigena was the pilgrimage road that connected Rome to Santiago de Compostela. The ‘Via Francesca della Sambuca’ goes along to Abetone. The route is 2.5 km long and is practicable in an hour; you can start from the square of the Church of Pavana or from Bellavalle from the Castle of Sambuca following the highway 64 (the ‘Porrettana’).
